THE FAMILY ITINERARY
3 days in Copenhagen
with kids
Copenhagen is a dream with children — flat, safe, full of water and animals and playgrounds. This three-day plan keeps the walking short, mixes indoor rescues with outdoor fun, and saves Tivoli for the grand finale. For a full list of attractions, playgrounds and family food, see our Copenhagen-with-kids guide.
DAY ONE
Aquarium &
the postcard harbour
Open with the big one: Den Blå Planet, Northern Europe's largest aquarium, out by the airport Metro — go first thing, as it's a ride from town and shuts mid-afternoon. Then ride the Metro straight back to Kongens Nytorv for Nyhavn, a canal boat tour and the royal square at Amalienborg. If there's energy left, walk up the waterfront to Kastellet — the star-shaped fortress with grassy ramparts to run along, and the Little Mermaid right beside it.
Den Blå Planet
Northern Europe's largest aquarium — sharks glide overhead in the ocean tunnel, an easy metro ride from the centre.
Nyhavn
Copenhagen's iconic 17th-century harbour — a short canal lined with candy-coloured townhouses, old wooden sailing ships and quayside bars. The city's most photographed spot..

Canal boat tour
Departs Nyhavn — allow ~15 min for the next boat.

Amalienborg
The royal palace — changing of the guard at noon.

Little Mermaid & Kastellet
The famous statue + the star-shaped fortress park — a 10–15 min waterfront walk up from Amalienborg.
DAY TWO
Hands-on science &
a rooftop playground
A morning at the Experimentarium — a whole building of hands-on science, bubbles and water play, and the best rainy-day rescue in the city. Afterwards, head to the Nordhavn waterfront: let the kids loose on the Konditaget Lüders rooftop playground high above the harbour, while the grown-ups grab a proper coffee at La Cabra nearby.
Experimentarium
A world of hands-on science in Hellerup — bubbles, illusions and experiments. A huge hit with kids and a rainy-day saver.
Stroll Nordhavn
A walk around the regenerated harbour district — modern architecture, waterfront promenades and the Sandkaj swim deck..

DAY THREE
Gardens, a tower &
a Tivoli finale
Start calm in Kongens Have — the King's Garden, with its big free playground and the puppet theatre in summer — then climb the Round Tower's gentle spiral ramp (no stairs, easy for little legs) for a view over the rooftops. Spend the afternoon and evening at Tivoli Gardens, rides and lights and all.
Kongens Have
Copenhagen's oldest royal garden, behind Rosenborg Castle — lawns, rose beds and a summer puppet theatre; a favourite local picnic spot..

Rundetårn
Climb the 17th-century Round Tower for rooftop views.

Tivoli Gardens
The famous 1843 pleasure garden in the heart of the city — rides, gardens, concerts and restaurants; magical when lit up at night..
