THE SECOND VISIT
Copenhagen
like a local
Already seen Nyhavn, Tivoli and the Round Tower? This is the trip for the second visit — three days in the neighbourhoods Copenhageners actually spend their weekends: Nørrebro's coolest street, the pretty terraced lanes of Østerbro out to the new Nordhavn waterfront, and a Vesterbro-and-Carlsberg day of beer, street food and old breweries.
DAY ONE
Nordvest & Nørrebro —
the coolest quarter
Start furthest out and work back: the jaw-dropping yellow-brick Grundtvigs Kirke, the wild Superkilen park, the food-and-design street Jægersborggade, the leafy old cemetery where Hans Christian Andersen is buried, and buzzing Blågårdsgade for dinner.
Grundtvigs Kirke
A jaw-dropping expressionist church built entirely from pale yellow brick — worth the trip north.

Superkilen
Nørrebro's famous urban park — the red square, the black square with its sweeping white lines, and quirky objects from 60+ countries.
Jægersborggade
A 300m indie street in Nørrebro — specialty coffee, natural-wine bars, ceramics and bakeries like the Coffee Collective and Meyers Bageri..

Assistens Kirkegård
A leafy cemetery-park where locals stroll, picnic and sunbathe — Hans Christian Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard are buried here..

Blågårdsgade
A laid-back Nørrebro street and square — neighbourhood cafés, bars and a real local feel away from the tourist track..
ALSO NEARBY
- Andersen & Maillard — Croissant cubes and coffee — three shops across the city.
- Rondo — A beloved little Nørrebro bakery for cardamom buns and sourdough, at Sjællandsgade 7.
- Diamond Slice — Cult New-York-style pizza by the slice right on Blågårdsgade 27.
DAY TWO
Østerbro & Nordhavn —
pretty streets & the new harbour
A slow day in Copenhagen's calmest quarter: the historic Brumleby cottages, the colourful little street of Olufsvej, a pastry from Juno the Bakery, then north to the reclaimed Nordhavn waterfront — the Konditaget Lüders rooftop and a dip off Sandkaj in summer.
Brumleby
A hidden 1850s workers' village of butter-yellow terraces — one of Østerbro's most charming corners.

Olufsgade
A pocket of old working-class Østerbro — modest, colourful and quietly pretty.

Juno the Bakery
Minimalist Østerbro bakery famous for its cardamom buns — arrive early, queues get long. (Old-school Bosses nearby is a good comparison and backup.).

Stroll Nordhavn
A walk around the regenerated harbour district — modern architecture, waterfront promenades and the Sandkaj swim deck..

Sandkaj swim (Nordhavn)
A sunny harbour-bath deck in Nordhavn — ladders straight into clean harbour water; a local summer favourite..
ALSO NEARBY
- Bosses Bager — No-nonsense Østerbro bakery beloved for good-value pastries.
- Kartoffelrækkerne — The 'Potato Rows' — leafy lanes of Victorian terraced houses that locals adore.
- Ismageriet ice cream — A beloved local ice-cream shop — proper Danish ice, freshly made cones and generous scoops. A perfect Østerbro treat stop..
DAY THREE
Vesterbro & Carlsberg —
beer, street food & old breweries
Copenhagen's hippest quarter: stroll Istedgade, tour the historic Home of Carlsberg, wander the new Carlsberg Byen district, and end in Kødbyen, the old meatpacking district turned bar-and-restaurant hotspot.
Stroll Istedgade
Vesterbro's liveliest street — cafés, bars, shops and people-watching.

Home of Carlsberg
The Carlsberg story in the historic brewhouse — the exhibition, the dray-horse stables and the famous Elephant Gate.
Stroll Carlsberg Byen
The brewery's old grounds turned Copenhagen's newest district — historic brick, hidden courtyards, silo bars and bold new towers.
Kødbyen (Meatpacking)
The Meatpacking District's restaurant row — dinner-friendly, kitchens and bars run late into the evening.

ALSO NEARBY
- Cisternerne — Art deep underground — the old water reservoirs beneath Søndermarken, with dripstones, total darkness and a 17-second echo.
- Gasoline Grill burger — Cult Copenhagen burger joint that started in an old petrol station — a short menu of top-quality burgers; expect a quick queue..
- Frederiksberg Have — A romantic landscaped park with canals, a hilltop palace and free-roaming herons — a locals' picnic favourite.
